We're Socially Responsible

Grosvenor Guest House believes in investing and supporting education based projects. See some of the projects we hold close to our hearts.

Baphumele Children's Home

The powerhouse who started Baphymele childrens' home is a wondeful lady, Rosalia MAshale or Mama Rosie as she's fondly known. The children’s home now provides these orphans and vulnerable children with a stable, loving, and permanent home. It also serves as a place of safety for children in crisis 24 hours a day. Children are sometimes brought to Baphumelele by police or social services as a temporary place of refuge, others have been in Baphumelele’s care for some years. At any given time there are over 100 children between 0 and 18 years of age, being cared for and accommodated. Because of the wide age range, many families of siblings who otherwise would have to be separated are placed together at Baphumelele.

Chic Mamas

A group of "Mamas" who care about South African children and their future. Passionate about education and the importance of Early Childhood development they believe that each child should have an equal opportunity to grow in a safe and stimulating environment.

Chic Mamas have created a chic, fun and sustainable way of fundraising to support educational projects in underprivileged areas around the country. They sell gently work no longer wanted clothing through their charity outlets situated in Bergvliet, Houtbay and Cape Town. Operations have recently been expanded to Durban and Johannesburg where Exlusive Fashion Exchange Parties - Swap/Pop UP shops are held with a party atmosphere.

Swap4Charity events, where participants can exchange their good quality items for tokens, which can be redeemed against future sales, are held monthly in Cape Town at the Bergvliet shop. Look out for Half Price Sales held regularly.

With the idea of reducing, reusing, recycling no longer wanted, good quality garments and goods, Chic Mamas create sustainable - eco friendly - funding and continue to have a positive impact on the environment.

Shine Literacy

Shine offers language and literacy support programmes in 46 primary schools, Shine Centres and Shine Chapters. Their reach includes the Western Cape, Eastern Cape and KwaZulu- Natal. They offer training to organisations such as faith based organisations, community centres as well as to individuals who share their passion to get children reading and, in this way, address South Africa’s educational crisis.

Partners For Possibility

Partners for Possibility is a creative solution to South Africa' education crisis - it is a co-action, co-learning partnership between School Principals and Business Leaders, enabling social cohesion through partnerships, and empowering Principals to become change leaders in their schools and communities. The Partners for Possibility Programme facilitates cross-sectoral reciprocal partnerships between Business, Government and the Social Sector.

NSRI - National Sea Rescue Institute

Sea Rescue is the charity that saves lives on South African waters.

The National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) is run by over 1 000 highly skilled, unpaid volunteers who are on standby day and night throughout the year.
